Our Story
In the early 1990s, Mary Kamau started classes at Kenyatta University. Having recently accepted Jesus as her Savior, she began to share the message of Christ in local mission work.
Along the way, Mary met a young worship leader who intrigued her with his stories of growing up in Mathare Valley—home to one of the oldest and largest slums in Nairobi, Kenya. Curious, she asked him to take her there so she could experience it for herself.
What she saw transformed her life—forever.

Dr. Wallace and Mary Kamau
Founders and Leaders
Dr. Wallace Kamau is a Certified Public Accountant. He previously worked for the multinational accounting firm of Price Waterhouse Cooper and also various insurance companies, holding positions in internal audit and finance as a Chief Financial Officer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce – Finance option from the University of Nairobi, a Masters degree in Leadership from Pan Africa Christian University and a Doctorate degree in Leadership and Global Perspectives from George Fox University. Following God’s call on his life, Wallace resigned from his corporate job to minister in the slums. In addition to serving as a director, he also serves as a pastor and overseer with Outreach Hope churches.
Mary Kamau holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Kenyatta University, a Masters degree in Leadership from Pan Africa Christian University and is pursuing a Doctorate degree in Leadership and Global Perspectives from George Fox University. Prior to forming MOHI, Mrs. Kamau worked and volunteered with various organizations in community development.
