Transformation Story:

Meet 16 year old Greg*, a student at Missions of Hope Olturot center. Greg comes from a family of three sisters and four brothers, and they reside in a traditional manyatta house made of sticks, mud, and grass. While both his parents are present, his father’s age makes his mother the sole provider for the family.

Before joining Missions of Hope, Greg’s responsibilities included tending to their animals. He embodied the role of a “Moran,” a term in Samburu culture that signifies a young, energetic man ready to defend the community in times of insecurity and participate in raids to recover stolen animals. With the introduction of Missions of Hope into this community, Greg’s journey shifted from being a Moran to a schoolboy, leaving behind traditional practices for change.

Previously, due to his upbringing in the Moran traditions, Greg exhibited rudeness and unfriendliness. However, through Missions of Hope programs like morning devotions, mentorship, counseling, and Bible teachings, he underwent a transformation. Overcoming the barriers set by the Moran culture, Greg now interacts amicably with others and has embraced a friendly demeanor.

Missions of Hope International began its operations in Marsabit County, particularly at Olturot village, in 2017. Through education empowerment initiatives led by MOHI’s ambassadors, Greg and his parents were connected with the program. Greg became a pioneer at the Missions of Hope Olturot Center.

We’re grateful for Greg’s tremendous transformation. He has transitioned from being rude and reserved to a friendly, engaging individual who actively participates in school and community life. Despite his family’s financial challenges, Greg has excelled academically and serves as a beacon of light for his family. He attends church regularly and has become an example of positive change in their community.

We extend our thanks to Missions of Hope International for their impactful programs, which have brought about this profound transformation in Greg’s life. Despite the initial obstacles and adversity he faced, Greg’s journey highlights the power of education, mentorship, and spiritual growth.
