Transformation Story:
Tebby’s* mother welcomed a beautiful baby girl while living in the Kaitengiro village of Lochoredome. During this time, Tebby enjoyed the care of both her parents until their separation. Following the separation, Tebby found herself in the care of a single mother who led a family of ten. Tebby is the youngest member of her family.
Tebby’s mother faced significant challenges after the separation, struggling to provide for her family on her own. With no school established in their village, she intended to teach Tebby traditional Turkana practices, including preparing traditional meals, herding, and constructing traditional homes. This upbringing aligned with Turkana cultural expectations of preparing her for marriage when she comes of age.
However, the establishment of Missions of Hope Lochoredome Center changed Tebby’s trajectory. Although she wasn’t initially enrolled in the school, the efforts of the social workers led to a change of heart. Tebby’s mother had other plans for her, wanting her to contribute to the family’s sustenance by staying at home or visiting relatives. The social worker’s intervention was vital in persuading Tebby’s mother to reconsider and enroll Tebby in school.
Initially hesitant due to her lack of exposure to the benefits of education, Tebby’s mother eventually agreed to send her daughter to school after discussions about the value of education and its practical benefits. Tebby was admitted into kindergarten in the first term of 2022, marking a significant turning point in her life.
Adjusting to the school environment wasn’t easy for Tebby. She was shy and unaccustomed to interacting with a large group of people. Yet, with the teacher’s patience and guidance, Tebby’s confidence grew. By the end of the term, Tebby exhibited remarkable progress in her academic and social skills.
Currently in kindergarten at the age of five, Tebby has flourished. She confidently leads prayers, sings, dances, recites memory verses, and engages in various learning activities. Her health has also improved since joining school.
Tebby’s consistent school attendance prompted her family to move to Lochoredome’s Kaadot village, which is closer to the school. Tebby’s mother, a devout Christian, prays that her daughter will successfully complete her education and contribute positively to both her family and society.
Enthusiastic about her education, Tebby regularly attends school, aspiring to become a teacher in the future. The family and school community are united in supporting Tebby’s aspirations, believing that through God’s grace, her dreams will indeed come true.
