Term Highlight:

  • We are immensely grateful for the community we serve. They have graciously made space for the construction site of our upcoming tuition block. Thank you to the members of the community invested and dedicated to transformation.
  • Our pride extends to our sixth-grade boys who went to Angaza Discovery Camp and returned transformed. Growth has been observed in many of them, reflecting a significant transformation.
  • Equally deserving of our pride are the parents within our community. Their unwavering support has played a crucial role in upholding discipline among the students. Taking personal initiative, they diligently follow up on learners’ behavior through local administration channels.

Transformation Story:

Denis* comes from a family where both parents are present. Including his three siblings, they form a household of six individuals. Initially a diligent student, his journey took a different turn upon reaching the sixth grade. This is when he began experimenting with drugs, engaging in conflicts with fellow students, frequently missing school, and sometimes even leaving home early but never making it to school.

On certain occasions, he was discovered with substances like marijuana and shisha pen – both prevalent addictive substances within the community. Addressing this issue proved challenging due to the fact that his home environment was the source of these influences as his father was involved in selling marijuana locally. As a school, we took the initiative to involve his parents in discussions about his concerning behavior. Through these conversations, we discovered that besides the home environment being a factor in his substance abuse, peer pressure and negative company were also contributing to his behavioral changes.

Following a conversation with his mother and the implementation of strategies to support Denis, so far, we’ve witnessed a remarkable transformation in his daily conduct. He’s now punctual in attending school, actively participates in class, maintains cleanliness and a well-groomed appearance, and adheres to school rules and his peers’ expectations. His mother attests that he now chooses his friendships more selectively at home, which was previously a factor driving his involvement in substance abuse.

His spiritual life has undergone a positive shift as well. He now leads morning devotion in his class and uses his personal experiences to guide his friends, emphasizing the significance of having good company and demonstrating obedience both at school and at home. The transformation we’ve observed in him has been profound, and his parents are genuinely thrilled to witness the positive changes in their son’s life.

Partner Activity:

  • We were excited to welcome Eastside Christian Church this term, as they organized a medical camp that greatly contributed to the well-being of both our students and staff. Additionally, they generously provided play equipment for our learners, enhancing the enjoyment of our spiritual programs like AWANA and Ignite. During their visit, they also sponsored some of our learners, making a meaningful impact on their lives today and in the future.

Prayer Request:

  • Let’s join together in prayer for a decrease in the rising insecurity and the prevalence of drug and substance abuse within our community.
  • We also lift up a prayer for the economic empowerment of our parents, that they may have the means to provide essential necessities for our learners.
