Term Highlights:

  • We’re thrilled to share the success of our music club, which took part in the zonal music competition. Despite a brief preparation period, they emerged as the top performers in the zone and qualified to advance to the county competition in Marsabit.
  • Our excitement extends to our volleyball and soccer teams as well. Both our boys’ and girls’ teams secured second place in volleyball. A special highlight was our boys’ football team’s impressive victory, triumphing over their competition with a decisive 2-0 win in penalty shootouts. We’re proud to announce that our boys and girls teams will be moving on to the next level!
  • Our boys and girls were wholeheartedly involved during the clubs and society days, all in preparation for a talent show that took place in the month of August. They showcased their talents and we celebrate their achievements.

Transformation Story:

Ned* is the firstborn in a family of six children and is 17 years old. His mother is the second wife to his father. Traditionally, children of second wives are not allowed to attend school unless the father gave his approval due to property ownership concerns. His father’s focus was primarily on supporting the elder family, where some children were fortunate enough to receive an education.

Ned, along with his younger siblings, was not attending school but instead worked in the grazing fields. Ned’s education journey began when he was taken to a local primary school at the age of five. However, his learning experience was marked by challenging moments, including periods of no food at home and a lack of support from his father while he was in school. By the time he got to grade one, around the year 2014, he was withdrawn from school and sent to the grazing fields to tend to his father’s flock. During this time, he faced mistreatment from his father and stepbrothers.

Eventually Ned decided to run away from home and sought refuge with his uncle in Kargi. He started attending CITAM (Christ is the Answer Ministries) church to connect with other children. Through the church, he met a missionary responsible for Sunday school lessons. After learning about Ned’s challenging background, the missionary connected him with one of our social workers. Following a thorough assessment, it became clear that Ned was in dire need of MOHI’s help.

With the help of the social worker, Ned was admitted to Missions of Hope Kargi School and he was initially placed in grade one. However, due to his advanced age compared to his classmates, he quickly progressed to grade two. This marked a significant shift in Ned’s life as he embraced the opportunity to receive an education and found joy in being in school.

Ned not only experienced academic growth but also spiritual transformation. He accepted Christ as his personal savior while in church and was baptized. He longs to become a minister of the word, delivering impactful messages that resonate with many people. Ned’s dedication and passion for his faith is evident. He often leads devotions and preaches to fellow students, earning the admiration of teachers and peers alike.

Ned’s journey from the grazing fields to his current educational pursuit is a testament to his resilience and determination. His example serves as an inspiration for other learners to follow, demonstrating that with dedication and effort, they too can achieve their goals and dreams.

Partner Activity:

  • We were delighted to welcome Eastside Christian Church. During their visit, they carried out home visits and provided some families with food baskets as a gesture of support. Alongside this, they conducted nutritional check-ups for the kindergarten students. They also organized malaria screenings for the entire school population. The kindergarten students participated in vibrant art and craft activities. These activities included drawing, painting, and coloring sessions, engaging the young learners in creative expression.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please join us in prayer for the parents, so that they may achieve economic stability to meet their family’s basic needs.
