Our Namarei center is located in Marsabit county in the Northern part of Kenya on the border of Kenya and Ethiopia. Namarei center serves one of the most marginalized communities in Kenya approximately 360 miles away from Nairobi.
The Namarei community is home to about 811 families from various villages with an estimated population of 5,000 people. They are mainly nomadic pastoralists and therefore they move around in search of pasture and water for their animals. The major religions practiced in the area are Christianity and their African Indigenous religions.
Namarei’s climate is hot and dry making famine, drought and hunger one of the communities largest challenges Other challenges within the community include female genital mutilation (FGM) for the girls, early marriages, teenage pregnancies and lack of clean and safe drinking water.
MOHI has provided the community with quality education, accessible healthcare and the availability of three nutritious meals everyday for our students. All of this has been brought through the transforming powers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This has made a massive impact in the lives of the community members that we serve.
