Mitangoni Center is located in Kilifi county along the Kenyan Coast. The community we serve has approximately 300 families and around 2400 people. The people in the community are a diverse mix of Christians and Muslims though the christians do not practice Christian values. The sandy soil in the area is not fertile for the people to grow crops and therefore, the people engage in casual labor such as construction workers and off-loaders at a nearby truck scales station.
Literacy levels in the community are low as access to education is limited. Many of the parents can not afford the transport cost to take their children to and from school everyday. As a result many of the people have not gotten the opportunity for an education. The community has challenges related to poverty such as drug and substance abuse, illiteracy, teenage pregnancy, witchcraft and lack of access to education.
Missions of Hope International has built a school for the community. This has provided the community with a quality Christian education that has been the gateway to bringing them to the hope that comes from the gospel of Jesus Christ.
