Olturot (meaning rocky land) is in Marsabit, Northeastern Kenya. The region lies at the foot of Mount Kulal (‘place of rest’). It’s a home to approximately 300 households.

Their main economic activity is cattle herding, buying and selling goat meat, and small-scale business. In this community, the major religions are Islam, Christianity, and African indigenous religions (e.g. worship of multiple deities, use of magic, etc.). Approximately 92% of residents are impoverished, and only approximately 26% can read and write.

Major challenges in this community include; unemployment, bandit attacks, tribal crashes, alcoholism, illiteracy, teenage pregnancies, female genital mutilation and school dropout (especially for girls who are married off at a young age).
