Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Rick* is a grade 12 student here at our Turkana High School. He joined MOHI in 2014 while he was in 2nd grade. He comes from a family of 4 children where he is the firstborn and the only boy with 3 sisters. His father is a herdsman while his mother sells charcoal to earn a living.

Over the last few years that we have known Rick, he was a well-behaved child with dreams of becoming a government official and changing his community. But when Rick got to high school things began to change. He became less and less interested in going to school and making his dream come true. Soon he began to skip school and eventually this led to drug and substance abuse.

This was very shocking to his family as they supported his education and raised him to make better choices. The school pastor, social worker, and teaching staff worked together to counsel Rick and find out what has caused the change in attitude and behavior. While talking to Rick they found out that he had gotten into the wrong company and encouraged him to skip school and do drugs.

The staff at MOHI were determined to get Rick back on the right track so they had many sessions with him until he realized that his future would suffer from the choices he makes right now. Soon his behavior began to change and the Rick that we once knew returned. He is now doing much better in school and is encouraging other students to do the same. He still has dreams of becoming a government official and joining the legislature that will impact and change his community.

Term Highlights

  •  We thank God for the completed construction of the science lab. Our students will find it much easier to complete physics, biology, and chemistry practicals.

Partner Activity

  • We were blessed to have First Christian Church Santa Maria visit us this term. Their words of encouragement were really inspirational.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for continued good health amongst our students and staff.
  • Pray for rain so that it brings food security in Turkana County.
