Hope Transforms: A Success Story

*Tenallo is a kindergarten pupil raised by parents whose main economic activity is pastoralism. This means that the father is often away and the mother is left behind to take care of the home.
Tenallo had a persistent illness at the start of the year 2021 which adversely affected his school attendance as well as class performance. He became a point of concern to the class teacher and social worker. Our consistent follow-up and recommendation that the parents take him to the hospital was not followed and the boy became progressively worse. One day in school, his body started swelling and the school administration took it upon themselves to take the boy for a check-up to the local medical facility. He was immediately referred to the larger sub-county facility.
With support from our medical team and finance department from Nairobi, Tenallo was taken to the hospital. He received a proper diagnosis and he was given medication as well as a recommendation for home-based care.
We thank God that MOHI stepped in to offer the financial support that made it possible for Tenallo to go to the hospital. The child responded very well to the drugs and is now attending school regularly. One of the doctor’s concerns was that the six-year-old is extremely underweight and we have since maintained a special diet for him at school and he is now a healthy pupil. We give all the glory to God for the transformation realized in Tenallo’s health.

Term Highlights

- We are very proud of our grade one learners for their good performance in class despite being under the accelerated learning program. A good number of them can now read simple sentences in English and can answer oral and written questions.
- We are proud of the transformation being experienced among our learners as well as the community we serve. Most parents have developed a genuine interest in education and freely allow their learners to come to school as they take it upon themselves to look after cattle.
- The level of hygiene among our community members has greatly improved. We have noticed that our students now wash their clothes and shower before coming to school. There is a brand new culture being adopted.
Prayer Requests

- Pray for the community we serve so that they may have a permanent source of water for domestic and livestock consumption.
- Pray for financial provision so that we may construct the second block of classes for our learners, toilets for female pupils as well as staff at the tuition section.
- Pray for provision so that we may be able to complete already started projects at the center such as the gate, fence, and the guest houses.
