Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Suswa is a kindergarten student at Missions of Hope International (MOHI) Namarei center. The five-year-old joined our center in November 2020 as among the first pupils to be recruited.

At first, life at school was unbearable for Suswa because he was used to a nomadic lifestyle which left him free to come and go as he pleases. He was not able to socialize with his classmates or concentrate on his studies. He started being absent from school and his family finally decided to take him to a place in the forest where animal grazing is done.

Having gone back to the nomadic way of life and being away with his parents, it was impossible for us to trace Suswa. The only option left was to wait until it rains so that they could come back home because then pasture would be available for their livestock.

During this time, MOHI’s health team toured our center and the village where Suswa comes from is one of the places we visited. We could not believe our luck when we found Suswa’s father at one of the construction sites in the village. We asked his father about the boy’s whereabouts and implored him to bring his son back to school. He accepted but said we should not expect anything from him and that it would be our responsibility to ensure Suswa came to school every morning.

We thank God because Suswa’s older brother was working at our school as a casual laborer. After their father brought the boy to school, his brother offered to come with him every morning as he reports to work. We took advantage of our school feeding program and ensured Suswa was well-nourished whenever he came to school.

Today, Suswa loves school so much that he does not need any follow-up to come. He reports to school every day without fail, he is getting along with his classmates and is doing well academically. His father has also undergone a transformation. He is now paying the commitment fee without fail, he even bought the school uniform for his son and will occasionally show up at the school to inquire about his son’s progress.

We thank God for the change of heart we have witnessed in this family. We pray that their hearts will be open to the gospel’s call as we continue to evangelize them.
