Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Peter* and Jane* are 10 and 7 years old. They live in Kibunja village near our school with their single uncle after their mother passed away in 2016 and their father, later on, followed in 2019. The two siblings were left as orphans. This was when their uncle decided to take them in and take care of them.

Things were not easy for the new single father of two. He could barely make ends meet doing casual work around the village. Peter and Jane attended a school in a village far from Kibunja. It was quite a struggle to make the trip every day. Their uncle could not afford to pay the extra fee so that the school could provide lunch for his children. As a result, he would have to wake up very early to prepare breakfast and lunch for the children to carry to school. Food was not, however, always available and many times the children would go to school without having anything to eat for the day or from the night before.

During our school’s annual recruitment process is when we met Peter, Jane, and their uncle. While they talked it was apparent that Peter and Jane would benefit so much from being a part of MOHI so we decided to take them in. Since then you can tell that Peter and Jane love being in school. They have better self-confidence and they now participate in class more actively and socialize well with other children. Peter now wants to be an engineer when he grows up and Jane wants to be a pilot when she grows up. We thank God for the transformation and the opportunity to serve this family.
