Hope Transforms: A Success Story

*Esther is a single mother of eight and a parent to three students in the Molo Milimani center. She has a daughter in grade six, another in grade five, and a son in grade one.  Her story is full of twists and turns that have left her depressed and frustrated.

She first got married to a man in Nairobi and together they had four children. The man was, however, irresponsible and Esther was often the one left to care for the children. When the situation got worse, Esther’s mother took them in and helped her daughter set up a business. For a while, all was well as Esther was able to care for her children until their father showed up seeking reconciliation. When the situation got complicated, her mother sent her packing with the children and the husband. They then moved to Molo and things were good for a while until the man disappeared again leaving her with the children.

This time round Esther decided to move on with her life and was soon married again. With her new husband, they had three children, but unfortunately, her second husband fell sick and died. His family took everything they had and left her struggling to raise seven children on her own without any support from them. Not so long after, she got together with another man, but this one left her when she was pregnant with her 8th child. From then on, Esther sunk into a deep depression and she had lost hope in life.

By the time MOHI opened the Molo center in 2018, her 8th child was of school-going age and we recruited him and his two older sisters. We soon noticed that there was a problem in the home because Esther was totally removed from matters pertaining to her children’s wellbeing and education. She gave minimal attention to how her children came to school looking and she would not come when called to the school. It was only after we had conducted several home visits and counseling sessions with her that she shared her life story with us. The woman was feeling unlucky in love, rejected and unwanted and she had lost interest in life itself.

We involved our school chaplain in this matter, Pastor Wilberforce, and it was he that introduced Esther to the love of Jesus that will never end. We have held several sessions evangelizing to her and praying with her and there has been a noticeable difference. Whereas once she was constantly sad, we are starting to see her smile more as she allows the truth of the gospel to sink into her wounded heart. There is also a difference in her behavior towards the children whereby she is more attentive, she ensures they are clean and have something to eat, and also takes part in their school activities.

We really thank God for the transformation witnessed in this family. Please join us as we pray for Esther that she will make a decision for Christ and in so doing experience a total transformation.

  • Most of our learners are now able to express themselves with confidence while communicating in English.
  • There has been an improvement from our parents on how they pay their commitment fee and we thank God for this transformation.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for us that God may provide finances for the construction of permanent classes in our center.
  • Pray for total transformation among our parents even as we continue sharing the love of Christ with them. We have those who are still drinking alcohol and our prayer is that they will be delivered from this vice.
  • Pray for God’s protection upon our pupils, parents, and staff. Pray that good health shall be their portion and that no weapon formed against them shall succeed.
