Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Ibrahim* is 8 years old and lives with his single father in Mitangoni village. Ibrahim’s mother abandoned her family, leaving Ibrahim in the care of his father when Ibrahim was 1 year old. To this day neither of them has seen her or known of her whereabouts since. Ibrahim’s father is a casual laborer doing odd jobs around the village to try and provide for his son.

When Ibrahim joined our Mitagoni Center he was reserved and kept mostly to himself. His class teacher noticed that he wouldn’t interact with his fellow classmates or participate in class. The teacher knew that Ibrahim had the potential to be confident and outgoing so they sent the social worker and the chaplain to find out what was going on at home.

During the counseling sessions, they found out that Ibrahim had begun to feel sad about the lack of a mother figure in his life. This made him reserved and to himself. He would wonder why his mother left their family and why she never came back.

The school chaplain and the social worker began to take Ibrahim through counseling that helped him cope with his feelings. Ibrahim’s self-esteem has improved since the sessions and now answers questions in class without looking down on himself.

With all the love and support he experienced, Ibrahim later gave his life to Christ. His father was also convicted to join the faith as Ibrahim wanted to go to church to be with his new friends. We thank God for this transformation. We thank God for Ibrahim and for his father.
