Hope Transforms: A Success Story

James* joined our Kosovo center in 2018 when he was joining kindergarten. James lives with his mother and father in the Kosovo area. At that time his parents ran a small business selling a Kenyan pastry called ‘mandazi’ which is somewhat similar to a doughnut. Though they had a source of income it was barely enough to buy food, pay rent, and pay school fees for both their children.
Before coming to MOHI, both James and his older brother who was in high school were sent home a lot due to a lack of school fees. During recruitment of students at MOHI, the Kosovo social workers identified James and he was admitted into our school. This was a great relief to his parents as they were struggling to make ends meet.
James’ mother and father would fight a lot. Due to the stress of not having enough money to feed their families and themselves. Jame’s father would drink a lot and this was the main cause of their arguments.
Now that James was a child at MOHI it gave the social workers the ability to counsel the parents and help them create a better life for their children. During these sessions, the social workers prayed with the family and encouraged them to save to venture into different businesses that would gain them more money and grow their current businesses.
Armed with encouragement and fresh ideas from their social worker, James’s parents listened and things began to change. They joined a local Church that they attend every Sunday, James’s father stopped drinking and opened a car spare parts business, and Jame’s mother then opened another smaller business expanding the mandazi business. This was the beginning of their economic empowerment, their business has been doing so well that they were able to move to a safer part of the Kosovo community.
We praise God for the transformation of a family through the love of Jesus.
