Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Jack* joined our center when he was in kindergarten in 2018. At that time his mother was a single mom and couldn’t afford to pay school fees to take him to school. During the recruitment process, our social workers found him walking around and decided to follow up. This is when they met his mother and decided to recruit Jack to be a student at our Korogocho Grogan Center.

Jack is now 12 years old and in grade 4. A little while ago Jack’s behavior began to change. He started to skip school and would refuse to do his homework. His teachers became concerned and asked his social worker to find out what was going on at home.

Once they did they came to find out that Jack’s mother had remarried. Her new husband had children of his own and so Jack became a part of a blended family. This adjustment was hard on Jack and caused him to lash out. Jack’s self-worth and esteem became low and he no longer wanted to come to school.

Jack’s social worker decided to talk to Jack’s parents about paying attention to Jack as he adjusts to a new home and new brothers and sisters. Jack’s parents listened and a positive change began to show.

Jack has started to attend school regularly and participates in class. His relationship with his father has also improved. We thank God for Jack and for his family.
