Hope Transforms: A Success Story

*Dani is a parent at the Kiamaiko center. She and her husband have four children, two of whom are currently our students in grade seven and grade two.

The family has been a part of the MOHI community for many years and we have seen Dani raise her children into God-fearing, well-disciplined people. The family has remained a close-knit unit despite the many challenges that life has thrown at them. For many years, Dani worked as a casual laborer while her husband was a mason. We walked closely with her, giving her financial advice that saw her save faithfully towards starting her own small business. In 2019, her husband lost his job and the family faced financial difficulties. We continued to pray with the family and encouraged Dani to continue her saving culture.

This year, Dani was finally able to open her small shop. We are so proud of her because this was not an easy thing to do but she listened to all our advice on economic empowerment. Her strong faith in God also made it possible for her to take this bold step. Her husband is also encouraged and is now able to go out and look for work as a casual laborer in order to supplement what his wife brings home, even as he continues to look for a job.

We rejoice with this family as we see their economic and social status improve. We are praying that the Lord will continue to honor the faith that Dani has in Him.

Term Highlights

  • We are very proud of our Scout club that participated in scout training within our school. They are now ready and prepared to compete in the upcoming regional scout competitions.
  • We are very proud of the social work team who continue to handle diverse cases. They offer hope to our students and give guidance to parents on how to overcome life’s daily challenges. This term, the team distributed food baskets to six needy families.
  • We are glad that the majority of our parents have been cooperative in ensuring that their children come to school early each morning. They have been accompanying their children to school and ensuring they come to school looking neat and tidy.

Partner Activity

  • A team of doctors from the US, in conjunction with pastors from Christ’s Church of the Valley – Arizona toured our center. They screened and treated 250 students focusing on common conditions seen in the community such as malnutrition, anemia, respiratory and skin infections, dental cases, eye and ear infections among others.
  • Our staff members also benefited from this team’s medical expertise during a week-long staff-only medical camp held at MOHI’s Pangani center.
  • We had a visiting professor from Taking Christ to Millions Institute (TCMI) in August. The visit from Prof. Myron Williams – also from Twin Oaks Christian Church, was revitalizing for the staff who spent the day with him.

Prayer Requests

  • Praying for all our students, and especially those in grade eight, as they continue in their studies that they will excel and have good grades.
  • As the country prepares to go into an election year (2022), political temperatures are rising. Join us as we pray for peace in Kiamaiko and the country at large.
  • Pray that all scheduled programs and school activities will go on as planned without any delays or interferences.
