Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Ava* was 10 years old when we met her. She would occasionally attend our Sunday school at our Kargi Center. Ava stood out to our center Social Worker because she was rather aggressive to other children. Our social worker decided to pay her a home visit and find out why Ava was not in school.
Ava comes from a family of five where she is put in charge of her siblings as her mothers goes to find work. Ava’s father is a security guard at a local shop in Kargi town. However he picked up a drug and alcohol addiction. As a result any money he would earn would be used to fuel that addiction.
Ava’s father did not see the value of an education and so he refused the proposal to let Ava attend. He believed that it was not beneficial to let his girls go to school as they would not get husbands who would bring him Camels so he can immerse some wealth. It took a lot of convincing, but eventually he reluctantly agreed.
Even though Ava has been able to attend school, her father gives no support, leaving Ava’s mother to try and provide for Ava. Ava and her mother are grateful for MOHI as Ava is fully supported to be able to attend school. Ava also receives 2 meals a day which is a great blessing in their lives.
Ava is now 12 years old and in grade one. She is learning so much in school and about Jesus. She has been encouraged to continue attending Sunday school as she had been previously. Soon Ava’s mother also started to attend the women’s fellowship that meets every Wednesday. We thank God for Ava and for her family. We are grateful that Ava has a place where she can decide her future and a place where she is reminded of the love that the heavenly father has for her.
