Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Maggie is a grade three student at Missions of Hope International (MOHI) Area 2 center.

Maggie’s parents had been having conflicts that affected her education. She would often miss school and even when she came, she looked very unkempt and was not able to concentrate in class. Her commitment fee also went unpaid and the parents were not keen to follow up on her progress.

The parent’s conflict escalated to the point where the father took the child with him to his upcountry home located some 210 miles from Nairobi. We were alerted to this by the mother who appealed to the school to intervene and have Maggie brought back to Nairobi. When we got hold of the father, he was reluctant to bring her back saying her mother was always drunk and had no time for the child. Armed with this information, we started following up with the mother to help her change and make the home conducive for Maggie.

Losing her child must have been a wake-up call because Maggie’s mother took proactive steps to stop taking alcohol and take better care of herself.  She also started taking care of the home, making it conducive for a child to stay in. In time, the father was convinced and he released Maggie to come back to Nairobi although he opted to stay away.

Maggie has since caught up with her studies and is doing well. With the mother’s changed outlook in life, there is a big difference in how she is caring for her child. Maggie now attends school regularly and comes looking very neat and in the event she will be absent, the mother usually lets the school know. We really thank God for the changes we are witnessing and we will continue walking closely with this family.

Please keep Maggie and her family in your prayers as we continue to trust God for healing and restoration of the marriage relationship.
